There are relatively new developments connecting the geometry of Hessenberg varieties and symmetric functions and their associated combinatorics. This is a ‘hot’ and active research theme that has great potential, including but not limited to answering a longstanding combinatorial conjecture.
This activity is centred on two intertwined mini-courses—one concentrating on the geometry of Hessenberg varieties and the other concentrating on the associated combinatorics—followed by a 1.5-day conference.
The mini-courses are aimed at graduate students specializing in geometry or combinatorics. The conference is aimed at researchers in the area. The principal goal of the mini-courses is to provide participants with sufficient background, in both the geometry and the combinatorics, to understand the central problems in this research field.
